A few remarks
A few remarks:
- BE is not a quick fix. It is a sure fix, though. Of course there are other methods to achieve the same results, but BE is the most comprehensible of them. The exercises are basically simple in their approach and easy to learn by every trumpet player. They are well explained and on the CD is a good example of every exercise in the book. Of course this does not mean that it doesn't take a lot of patience and perseverance to attain a Balanced Embouchure.
- BE is not a jazz or high note embouchure. In fact, it isn't even an embouchure at all. It is just a dynamic development system for your whole embouchure: lips, tongue, breath and the balanced coordination between these three elements.
- More and more French horn players and trombone players are having a go with the BE principles.
- Do not let the pictures in the book or the feeling of the exercises (once you start) upset you. Unlike other methods there is no need to change everything into this strange setup. Your chops will gradually incorporate more and more of the feeling the exercises give you. Many people are scared off by blown cheeks or air pockets in the upper or lower lip. Air pockets can be very useful to make an embouchure change, and often they dissapear again. It is possible that sometimes an air pocket stays, but if this gives you a great sound and control, there is no reason why it shouldn't be there. There is absolutely nobody who can predict how your chops will look after a while, but I can predict that whatever it might look like, it will sound great!
